DEFRA Module 1) Water & Flood Safety Awareness run to the ‘Annex G’ syllabus (supersedes Annex 'H')
The DEFRA ‘Water Safety / Rescue Awareness’, one-day course complies with the DEFRA ‘Flood Rescue Concept of Operations’ scheme. (DEFRA ‘Con-Ops’ for brevity)
The Annex ‘H’ module superseded by the Annex ‘G’ module in December 2025, the most recent update to the ‘Con-Ops’, to sit between the DEFRA Module 1. ‘Water Awareness’ and Module 2. ‘Water Rescue First Responder’.
This training module was originally aimed at workers and volunteers who work in support of flood response but do not come from rescue organisations as it covers general water safety awareness training and basic self-rescue techniques.
Organisations who routinely carry out work near water outside of flood incidents should consider if Annex ‘G’ meets their required needs: Environment Agency approved and now the ‘Industry Standard’ benchmark for water safety training across industry.
Covering ‘open water’, ‘still water’, ‘rivers’, ‘lifejacket-user’, ‘self-rescue’, ‘co-worker rescues’ amongst other highly practical skills for personnel working on, near or above the water.
Our water safety & rescue courses are CDM Regulations 2015 and compliant with the current DEFRA Con-Ops.
DEFRA Module 2) ‘Water Safety / Rescue First Responder’
The Outreach Rescue ‘Water Rescue First Responder’, two-day course complies with the DEFRA ‘Flood Rescue Concept of Operations’ scheme at DEFRA Module / Level 2).
The Water Rescue Technician course enables students to work safely in flood response and other water rescue situations.
By encountering a wide range of training venues over the five days, students develop an understanding of the diverse risks and problems encountered in these difficult environments.
They are given a thorough grounding in all the skills required to work in moving water in a systematic way keeping risks to a minimum.
Our aim is to satisfy both our candidates and their employers, that those personnel working waterside are aware of the inherent risks in what can be considered a ‘hostile environment’.
